What is a chakra
The word Chakra is Sanskrit for “wheel”. Chakras are believed to be a hub or a wheel of energy that keeps us going. It is said that they play a major role in many Eastern religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism.
The Hindu religion believes that these chakras can be blocked through negative beliefs, emotions and physical issues. A person will have a good life with high levels of happiness when all 7 chakras are healthy.
On the other hand, they will experience imbalances in life if the chakras in their body are blocked. For instance, if your root chakra is blocked, then you will have difficulty with your financial stability and relationships to other people in your lives.
How many chakras are there
Chakras are energy centers in the body that carry life force or vital energy. These chakras are located in the human body, starting at the base of the spine and moving up to the crown of the head.
As aforementioned, there are seven major chakras in the body. Each person has all seven but they may be blocked or unbalanced

Chakras and their meanings
Muladhara (root support)
The red root chakra is located at the base of your spine. It is responsible for your sense of security and stability. All six other chakras depend on this one.
When this chakra is activated, you will feel grounded and experience a sense of connection to the earth. On the contrary, when this chakra is blocked, you will often feel fearful and worried.
Root chakra affirmation suggestion: I am centered and grounded
Svadhisthana (one’s abode)
The orange sacral chakra is located between the navel (belly button) and pelvic region. It is responsible for your passion, sexuality, and joy.
When this chakra is activated, you will feel alive and desired. On the contrary, when this chakra is blocked, you will experience feelings like fear of intimacy or social anxiety.

The yellow solar plexus chakra is located in your stomach area. It is responsible for your self-esteem and confidence.
When this chakra is activated, you will feel outgoing and energized. On the contrary, when this chakra is blocked, you will feel a surge of low self-esteem and powerlessness.

The green heart chakra is located at your heart center. It is responsible for your ability to show love and compassion.
When this chakra is activated, you will feel in tune with your heart and yourself. On the contrary, when this chakra is blocked, you will lack a sense of trust and empathy.
Heart chakra affirmation suggestion: I love myself deeply and completely
Vishuddha (especially pure)
The blue throat chakra is located at the base of the throat. It is responsible for self-expression and honesty.
When this chakra is activated, you will be capable of speaking the truth and clear communication. On the contrary, when this chakra is blocked, you will most likely be shy or find yourself unable to speak out.

Third Eye Chakra

The indigo third eye chakra is located at the center of the forehead (between the brows). It is responsible for your inner vision and imagination.
When this chakra is activated, you will experience clarity and focus. On the contrary, when this chakra is blocked, you will find yourself lacking focus and imagination.

Top of the head
The violet crown chakra is located at the top of your head. It is responsible for your consciousness. The energy of this chakra is supplied by the other six.
When this chakra is activated, you will feel enlightened as if you have found your purpose. On the contrary, when this chakra is blocked, you will encounter brain fog and perhaps depression.

Importance of chakra balancing
Having your chakras aligned is essential for improved overall health and wellbeing. Not only will you discover a new ability to heal much faster physically, but you will also find yourself feeling much healthier mentally and spiritually.

How to unblock chakras
Chakra healing is the process of clearing blocked energy from one (or more) of these seven chakras to promote spiritual healing. There are many different ways you can unblock chakras. Some practices could be performed alone whereas others would require consultation with a trained practitioner.
Chakra stones or healing crystals have the power to invite energy from deep within the earth. They could soothe and unblock chakras in your body.
There are many ways to unblock chakras using these crystals but here are a few of my favorite:
- Wear them as a necklace/bracelet
- Carry around the crystals in your pocket
- Meditate with the crystals associated with the chakras
- Place them close to you while sleeping or under the pillow
- Add them to your bath water for a relaxing healing experience
Chakra meditation is a great way to unblock chakras so you can achieve balance within once again. Keep in mind that each chakra has its specific seed sound, not to mention that the meditative position to assume for healing each chakra differs slightly too.

Practicing yoga not only relieves stress and tension but also channels inner peace within by creating alignment in the physical body. When the physical body is balanced and stabilized, the subtle body follows to restore balance throughout the seven chakras.
You can choose to either progress through a series of movements or direct your focus on a particular area of the body where you feel the most imbalanced.

Reiki is a form of energy healing therapy that originated in Japan. In this process, the healer will place their hands on the body of the patient, near one of their chakras to trigger the flow of qi (energy) in order to remove the blockages.
Although Reiki can be a truly relaxing experience, there simply is not enough medical evidence to prove it a legitimate treatment that could cure chronic disease, as some “gurus” might have claimed.
Similar results could also be achieved through the Traditional Chinese Medicine technique known as Acupuncture. To begin, the practitioner would insert fine needles on the pressure points (also called acupoints) on your body that is causing the blockage.
Applying the right amount of pressure onto these points could promote blood circulation and release muscle tension.
